Águila has an intimate relationship with Colombian culture and Vallenato, a music genre listed as Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding. Unfortunately, people nowadays tend to relate it to drug use and excess as the behavior of some Vallenato performers has overshadowed its importance. In connecting Águila with Colombians, our challenge was to restore Vallenato’s cultural heritage.

In honor of Colombia’s most important music genre, we created six Vallenato songs accompanied by six original illustrations for Águila. In light of the 40th anniversary of Gabriel García Márquez’ Nobel Prize for Literature, we paid homage to his words of wisdom, as he once said that “One Hundred Years of Solitude is a 400-page Vallenato”. This campaign serves to remind Colombians that Vallenato music is as important as a Nobel Prize for Literature, as it’s at the core of the country’s cultural heritage
